Hey hi!

I’m Yao, a Product Designer who’s passionate — in my colleagues’ words, a ball of energy — for teamwork and intellectual challenges. These days I’m designing customer-facing products and internal tools for fostering a healthy marketplace dynamics in trucking industry at Uber Freight.

With an entrepreneurial mindset, I have been working at tech corporations and small startups, helping cultivate design and collaborative culture. For the past 5 years, I have worked within mid-sized design teams, as well as being the solo designer in the organization, driving design process and delivering B2B solutions and consumer applications end-to-end. Connect with me or view my resume.

I put on different hats while going through product development process: Anthropologist, Experimenter, Storyteller, and Collaborator. With real-world professional experience and User-Centered Design degrees, I lead product design process from opportunity exploration, solution ideation, experimentation to implementation. In organizations that are new to design thinking, I collaborate, foster design culture and become the driving force with my PM partner, qualitative researcher, data scientist and engineering lead, when it comes to new product development.

If I’m not making things, you can find me playing Chinese Zither, practicing martial arts, or riding motorcycle.

My recent thinking around product design

NLP is helpful in the sense of its rapidity and levitra 60 mg effectiveness. viagra 100mg sales This is obviously not genetic or hereditary but it is not a confirmed side effect. Being 100% embedded in a product squad, I develop my design philosophy iteratively — hypothesize it, experiment it, sometimes toss it out of the window to reconstruct it, and internalize it in the end.

My most recent product thinking that’s proven to be effective is (also featured @ ProductDesign.tips): the key to successfully taking the product to the market is solid partnerships between Product Designer, Product Manager, Engineer, Researcher, Data Scientist and Product Marketer… — Everyone collaborates as a “Product Developer” on the team, painting the product strategy, as well as executing it.

For Product Designer specifically, we are those Product Developers that are specialized in telling a strong user narrative. (For Product Manager, the strength could be their business sense in finding the right product market fit; for Researcher, it could be their sensitivity to user sentiments and needs.) By facilitating the right conversations where all Product Developers share perspectives from different angles, the team sees the full picture, and is able to constantly calibrate the process based on the same objective.

Feel free to drop me a line. I’m happy to continue discussing anything around design with you. =)
